Portside Ventura Harbor so excited to present to you an Ofrenda table at the @portsideventuraharbor Vendors Market next Sunday on 10/24. Colores de Mi Tierra @coloresdemitierrafolkart has offered to bring you the spirit of this beloved holiday for vendors & customers to enjoy.

Día de los Muertos aka “The Day of the Dead” is a holiday celebrated on the 1st and 2nd of November. It originated and is mostly observed in Mexico but also in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. The Day of the Day is about celebrating the lives of the deceased with food, drink, parties, and activities the dead enjoyed in life.

The ofrenda is often the most recognized symbol of Día de los Muertos. This temporary altar is a way for families to honor their loved ones and provide them what they need on their journey. They place down pictures of the deceased, along with items that belonged to them and objects that serve as a reminder of their lives.

Here are some fun facts about Dia de los Muertos:

  • Origins of this celebration go back as far as 3,000 years!
  • It was originated in Mexico & Central America
  • It’s a celebration of life, NOT death
  • Flowers, butterflies and skulls are typically used as symbols

We hope you all enjoy the Halloween X Día de los Muertos celebration next weekend at Portside Ventura Harbor! Hope to see you and your families there.
