September 15 to October 15 is a special opportunity to highlight the rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions of Hispanic and Latino Americans, who come from various countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain. In Ventura Harbor Village, we’re showcasing the cuisine, dance, and music that are integral parts of this heritage.

On Saturday, October 14th, from noon to 2pm our Village courtyard will come alive with traditional music and dance:
Come down to see live band, Conjunto Zacamundu! Enjoy their Son Jarocho style, featuring harp player, Xocoyotzin Moraza, from Rey Fresco! The uniqueness and authenticity of this group sets them apart from anything in the area!
In between music sets, Alexandra Tracy Chavarriaga, a Colombian dancer, will perform traditional Cumbia, Salsa, Samba, and Puya dances, donning authentic costumes for each. During her performances, she will also share insights about the dances, offer a brief history, and engage the audience with participatory elements for each dance.
The observance of Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15, which is the anniversary of the independence of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico’s independence day is on September 16, and Chile’s is on September 18. These dates are significant milestones in the history of these nations and are celebrated during this month.
