The From Shore to Sea lecture will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 7 PM at the Channel Islands National Park Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center.
The programs are free and open to the public.

As 2016 draws to a close, Channel Islands National Park Superintendent Russell Galipeau will discuss the National Park Service Centennial and provide a glimpse into the future management of the park.

The centennial year of the National Park Service (NPS) was a time to reflect on the past 100 years of protecting America’s treasured spaces and to create the next generation of park stewards. Galipeau will discuss this milestone in park history through a historical lens, examining the ways in which national parks have contributed to our country and suggesting how they can stay relevant as the NPS enters its second century.

Galipeau will also provide a retrospective on Channel Islands National Park, looking back at the management actions taken to preserve the biological, cultural, and educational values of the park. He will suggest ways in which the park can continue to serve the community in the years to come.

Galipeau has worked for the National Park Service for 35 years, serving at parks across the country, from Everglades National Park in Florida to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska. He has been the Superintendent of Channel Islands National Park since
2003 after leaving his position as the Chief of Natural and Cultural Resources at Yosemite National Park.

The talk will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016. The From Shore to Sea lecture series is sponsored by Channel Islands National Park to further the understanding of current research on the Channel Islands and surrounding marine waters. The 2016 lecture series will take place at 7:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, January through December, at the Channel Islands National Park Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center, 1901 Spinnaker Drive in Ventura Harbor. This extended schedule is in honor of the National Park Service’s milestone centennial anniversary, which celebrates 100 years of national parks.
The programs are free and open to the public.
