Celebrate the 2nd annual California Surfing Day with us seaside! Our states new official holiday honoring the lifestyle, history, culture, and future of surfing — is coming Sept. 20 – and we are celebrating the entire weekend leading up to it! The Golden State boasts hundreds of miles of coastline and some of the world’s best surf breaks. Together, we can help Visit California spread the word and raise awareness among surfing and adventure aficionados around the world about this holiday – and emphasize that the best waves are here in California.
Surfs up at Ventura Harbor, here are three ways to join in the fun:
- SATURDAY – Join the Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept 18th – Surfers are always doing their part to keep our beaches clean and healthy, now is your chance to join in to help remove trash and plastic pollution at our local harbor beaches. Volunteer your morning and participate at the community organized coastal cleanup. Meet at Harbor Cove Beach (Mother’s Beach) across from the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center at 9am – clean up goes until noon. Bring your own gloves (and bucket if you have one)!
- SUNDAY – The Surfer Joe Band will rock Ventura Harbor Village in the Channel Islands Courtyard (near Hats Unlimited and Lost in Socks) from 1 and 4pm on September 19th. Head down to the harbor to listen to a blend of surf and blues tunes from a band of local surfers.
- MONDAY – On the official California Surfing Day holiday, we encourage you to get a hot cup of coffee in the Harbor Village and head across the road to check the waves at Ventura Harbor’s two popular surf spots: Surfers Knoll Beach and South Beach. Enjoy the fresh salty sea air and the sand between your toes. How cool is it to watch surfers glide across the ocean while you enjoy your morning coffee? Or better yet, if you know how to surf – join ’em in the water!
