Learn About Noteworthy Black Figures and Spotlight Black Creators
This month we’re commemorating, learning, and reflecting upon the wise words of Maya Angelou in honor of Black History Month. Angelou was a world-famous author, scholar, activist, poet, and performer. She played an integral role in the Civil Rights Movement and continues to inspire with the beauty of her words.
Black artist and Harbor creator, Randall Williams, did an absolutely stunning job in bringing this chalk piece to life in the Ventura Harbor Village this February. Randall is a resident chalk artist who is commissioned by the Ventura Port District for special occasions and has shared his talents with the harbor community for the last 5+ years. Come see his latest Maya Angelou tribute near Barefoot Boutique before it fades away!
Support Black Owned Business
Another way you can honor Black history, not just this month, but anytime – is by supporting Black owned businesses. In 2022, Andria’s Seafood partnered with DarkiiChip to bring Ventura Harbor customers a delicious new menu offering – homemade chocolate chip cookies. They are baked fresh weekly and owners, Ken and Daron, bring a new batch by Andria’s in Ventura Harbor every Friday.
DarkiiChip cookies come from a 70 year old recipe that originated from Ken Charles’ family kitchen – he thanks his late mother, Mrs. Charles, for coming up with the quality dessert. DarkiiChip is a company founded on family, tradition, and passion – we are grateful to have them as a sweet part of this Harbor community. Show your support and swing by Andria’s to buy a bag of chocolate chip cookies at the counter!
